The club was so saddened to hear today of the passing of former long serving Clerk of the Course Jim Louden (Aged 78)

Jim, who had his own joinery business in Allanton near Chirnside for many years, moved to Duns with Wife Lacey after retiring, but over recent times had been in hospital and more recently in a Tweedmouth Nursing Home.

Jim was a leading figure in the former Bandits' Swinton Branch of the Supporters' Club, a track official and hands-on worker at Shielfield Park for many years and then, using his work skills, in the birth of the stadium at Berrington Lough in 1982, but is best remembered as a widely respected Clerk of the Course for the Bandits a role he held for over 30 years before stepping down around 5 seasons ago.. Lacey, herself, is also a previous long serving volunteer manning the turnstiles at Berrington and Shielfield.

Details of Jim’s Funeral will be posted on our website in due course

Scott Courtney said this evening: "I'm deeply saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. I’ve known Jim hasn’t been well for sometime but it still comes as a shock.

"Jim has been an unbelievable servant to the club and he will always be remembered fondly by everyone at Berwick Bandits Speedway Club.

"His service to the club was phenomenal and goes as far back as the club itself. Jim was instrumental in the build of Berrington Lough back in the early 80’s and stories of his experiences were fantastic.

"Only last year Jim and Lacey arrived at the training academy at Duns for a look and we encouraged him to bring the car down and take a spin around and there was no holding him back!

"Even then, Jim's passion and enthusiasm for the club was glowing and he mentioned that he wished he could’ve helped with the build of the academy but I reminded him that he has more than done his stint. His great work and personality will be remembered forever.

"The club has a lot to thank Jim and Lacey Louden for and they both embodied everything Berwick Speedway is all about.

"Jim will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with Lacey at this sad time."
