Danish superstar Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen has agreed to join the Olympus Marquees Berwick Bandits (Powered by Mike Hope, Wooler) for.the remainder of the 2017 SGB Championship season pending the usual BSPA approval.

Nikolaj joins the Bandits on loan from Rye House and has an impressive record around Shielfield Park racing for the Rockets and the Peterborough Panthers in past seasons taking good points.

The young Dane steps into the side to complete the season after the club have received the news that Lewis Bridger's back injury is far worse than first thought and may require surgery.

Club co-owner, Scott Courtney said on Monday: "We are excited to welcome Nikolaj to Berwick and I think he will do a good job for us. His attitude and hunger to wear a Bandits race jacket is impressive and on his day I feel he is a legitimate heat leader in the Championship division.

"We must say a massive thanks to Joe Jacobs who stepped into the side on a 28 day contract. Joe is a great lad and instantly settled into his surroundings. Joe's contract was short term and both parties were aware of that. I would like to add that although the transfer deadline of July the 28th is fast approaching I would encourage any other clubs to contact Ipswich Witches who are interested in Joe and we can only thank him once again for his efforts and give him a glowing reference.

"Speedway teams are governed by averages and we have to maximise what's in front of us on a constant basis to stay competitive. Joe was signed as short term cover for Lewis Bridger and only in the last 24 hours have we learned of the severity of Lewis's injuries.

"There is a chance he may require surgery on his back after that huge spill against Workington earlier in the season and everyone at Berwick Bandits Speedway Club would like to thank Lewis for his spectacular efforts in 2017.

"Of course the situation has not ended well for Lewis but I think it's fair to say Saturday nights have not been boring this season and Lewis deserves a lot of credit for a good part of the on track entertainment!

"Both Lewis and Joe have been a delight to deal with and are behind our decisions to make the most of our 2017 campaign moving forward, therefore on behalf of everyone at the club I thank Joe and Lewis for their time as Bandits and we look forward to welcoming Nikolaj into the side."

Once the required BSPA approval is granted, Nicolaj makes his Berwick debut on Saturday night against the Sheffield Tigers in the SGB Championship.
