Bandits on the "Road to Redcar"
The Berwick Bandits' 2017 season, full of disastrous turns and injury, took another blow to the gut when it emerged that top new signing, Dane Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen is out for the season after a heavy third bend fall at Shielfield Park on Saturday suffering a shoulder injury, just in time for the Bandits trip to the Redcar Bears tonight in the SGB Championship.
Team manager Gary Havelock explained: "I don't think there's any black cats left in Berwick as we must have ran them all down the way this season has lurched along and with our latest injury we're using rider-replacement to cover his rides tonight over in Redcar, but we won't have Nick Morris either as he has to race for his Premiership side, Swindon tonight as a priority but we've got a habit at Berwick of picking a good guest and in Steve Worrall we have a great replacement.
"Steve has just become a dad for the second time and we send our congratulations to him, and it's at a time of his career when he's becoming one of the best Team GB international riders on the round at the moment, so this guy is on the crest of a wave just now and it's great to have him with us tonight, while at reserve Jack Parkinson-Blackburn is our guest for Lee Payne who is still on out long list of injuries.
"The Bears are having a good season so far and are only one place off a play-off position so they will be going all out to put one over us tonight, and while it's been a hard going year for us we'll give them a fight alright as we want to show we can take unexpected wins even when we are very much the underdog, but we'll make it an exciting evening that's for sure."
