Happy new year to you all!
I hope you all had a fantastic festive period and you are all keeping up with your new year’s resolutions!
I for one chose not to make any resolutions, so I am afraid I will still be writing nonsense for you all to enjoy or otherwise!
So with that in mind, we are finally into 2018 that means that at least the start of the new season is in sight, this year in fact! And by the time I write my next piece it will be little more than a month away from tapes up!
Excited? You should be! I know I am!
That being said as I write this it is approximately eight below zero outside; surely by March it will be above zero though! That being said, minus eight or 28, I will be there!
Reading through the Speedway Star the other week and I was interested to read the annual “Winners and Losers” article, and I noticed that we were in the winners section on multiple occasions, despite our eventual lowly league position.
The biggest reason, at least in my opinion, is that our promotion have been forward thinking in their approach to running the club, whilst keeping the club going on the budget they have to play with.
There was a quote in that article that made reference to entertainment being more important than results, and to an extent I agree.
While we all want to see a winning side and our team doing well, we ultimately want to be entertained....to me that is the primary reason that I watch speedway. Whether your interest lies in sport of any kind, arts, theatre or watching the Tiddlywinks World Championships, it is a form of entertainment to those who take the time to view it.
Speedway is no different in that regard, and while all riders dream of one day becoming the world champion it is a simple fact that not all of them can be, but all of them are entertainers.
Some of course, are more entertaining than others whether it be in the manner in which they ride the bike, or in the manner in which they score their points.
What I want to know though is who would make your all time 1-7 entertainers and why? And if you wish to keep in with the Bandits theme, why not make it a “Bandits Entertainers” 1-7?
Let’s see if we can get a side together that would hypothetically entertain the masses around Shielfield Park, or indeed, Berrington Lough! Let me know via the email address below.
Of course if you wish to agree, or disagree with the Mythman, have an idea for a feature, or you simply want to chew the fat over all things speedway, you can email me Mythman666@hotmail.com. If your compliments, or indeed gripes can be contained to just 280 characters. You can send me a tweet @Mythman666.
Until next time...and there will be a next time.
