Since the last time I rambled on here, many things have happened...Holly Willoughby proved to be pleasing on the eye presenting alongside Dec and we all learned that John Barrowman will put anything in his mouth to win a meal...who knew?!
The winter months and subsequent television viewing can be grim at times!
However the big news is that we now all know not only the Bandits team for 2019, but also the vision for 2019 and beyond thanks to Jamie Courtney’s well received fans forum a couple of weeks ago.
While it is a virtual impossibility to please everyone, Jamie explained his reasons for making the changes he has made and ultimately he wants Speedway in Berwick to be sustainable and for it to stand on its own two feet...that is what we all want.
In terms of the on track stuff though I think we have a really solid team on our hands and the more teams that I see completing their line-ups, the more I feel we could upset a few of them, if not all of them.
With us keeping the nucleus of the side that did so well last season, we know that the team spirit will be there, we know what all the guys are capable of and we know they all want to be racing for Berwick and that to me is a huge plus point.
The newcomers of sorts to the team are well known to us, Leon Flint could well prove to be one of the best two point reserves out there and without wishing to heap too much pressure on the lad I think that he is more than capable of holding his own at this level.
Coty Garcia is another well known figure around these parts and I feel that a settled run in a side from the start of the season can only work to both his and our advantage, after all his scores with Ipswich towards the end of last season would suggest that there is a lot of room for improvement on his starting average.
Of the rest of the side we pretty much know what we are going to get. Aaron Summers will be determined to keep a hold of the number one race jacket but he will face stiff competition from Nickolaj Busk Jakobsen who I think many will view as the key man in our side this coming season.
However you may find that Jye Etheridge, Dany Gappmaier and our skipper Kevin Doolan may have plenty to say about that! I can’t wait for the season to get started!
When I started writing this, Newcastle, Birmingham and Eastbourne were the only teams left with riders to sign for the upcoming season, however these line ups have now been completed so we know exactly who and what we will be up against in 2019.
In my opinion (out with ourselves obviously) Sheffield and Leicester look like the teams to watch out for but there could well be a surprise or two out there and as we all know injuries and luck can also play a massive part.
Most clubs will be feeling that they are in with a shout and ultimately time will tell...and as always before the season starts I will be doing my usual Season Preview where I give you the full run down on the movers and shakers and how I feel they will fare.
For now though there isn’t an awful lot left for me to say apart from Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Best get started with the Christmas shopping!
