Fifteen years equates to 180 months, 5475 days or 7,884,000 minutes...it's a long time no matter how you put it, right?

A lot can happen in that time too, and if you don't believe me let me put it into context...

The year was 2004, I was a year into an apprenticeship and songs like Cha Cha Slide by DJ Casper and Call on Me by Eric Prydz were topping the charts, whilst Kelis was bringing all the boys to the yard with her Milkshake and some dude called J-Kwon was getting Tipsy.

It was a terrible year for music but in the world of film, 2004 was the year of the sequel with Spiderman 2, Shrek 2 and Meet the Fockers all hitting big numbers at the box office and in television, Friends was airing its final season, although you wouldn't know it because it has been on Comedy Central ever bloody since.

Where in the world of sport the summer Olympics took place in Greece, Lance Armstrong won his 6th Tour De France title and Janet Jackson was having what can only be described as wardrobe issues in a somewhat unscripted part of the Superbowl half time show.

There was one other significant sporting event in 2004, and that was the Bandits making the semi-finals of the Premier Trophy, known today as the Championship Shield and history repeated itself some 15 years later.

See...my ramblings do have a point!

Anyway...as your Bandits tore apart one of their oldest rivals on Saturday night, it started to become an evening of historical significance. We sent those Monarchs packing with their tails between their legs, and we booked our place in the semi-finals for the first time in a decade and a half.

At this point we obviously still don't know who we will encounter and while it will be tough no matter what, the Bandits have little or nothing to fear. The hallowed holy ground of Shielfield Park has become somewhat of a fortress in recent seasons and we have shown that we are capable of beating anyone on any given night. There won't exactly be any side out there exactly relishing the thought of coming to Shielfield either.

Of course it's still very early in the season, and all the cliches like "it's not about how you start, it's about how you finish" and "it's a marathon, not a sprint" can still be banded around, but surely when the early signs are good, we can almost dare to dream right?

Whether it's Eagles who need clipping, Tigers who need taming or Rebels needing repelled, the Bandits will be ready to take on the challenge of anyone who stands in the way of glory.

And I for one, cannot wait...The Berwick Bandits,YOUR Berwick Bandits in a national semi final...

Bang the drum, spread the word, tell your mates and get behind your team because now is the time and the time is now.

Of course if you wish to agree, or disagree with the Mythman, have an idea for a feature, or you simply want to chew the fat over all things speedway, you can email me jbspeedwaymedia@hotmail.com or get in touch via the JB Speedway Media Facebook page. If your compliments, or indeed gripes can be contained to limited characters, you can send me a tweet @Mythman666.

Until next time...and there will be a next time.
